The Hazlitt Theatre is the main theatre in Maidstone, Kent. Opened in 1955, it was named after William Hazlitt, the famous essayist who was born in the town.
The Theatre was refurbished in January 2014 and encompasses a wide ranging programme, specialising in children’s and family shows, classic drama & plays, breakout comedians, small-scale touring musicals, unique variety acts and an annual Pantomime. It’s elegant bar, comfortable foyer and fully refurbished 400-seat auditorium makes it the perfect venue for you to enjoy your favourite up and coming entertainers & shows.
The Hazlitt theatre has a traditional proscenium-arch stage measuring approximately 6 metres wide and 8 metres deep. It is also equipped with an orchestra pit, fly tower, film screen and full state of the art lighting and sound facilities. There are five dressing rooms and a large scene dock for storage.
The venue is also home to the ubiquitous Hazlitt Youth Theatre – a professional & dedicated group of over 200 members who attend weekly workshops to devise and produce their own theatre performances.
