Torch Theatre – Milford Haven

The Torch Theatre is a modern and vibrant centre for the arts which prides itself on extending a warm Pembrokeshire welcome to all visitors.

Established in 1977, The Torch Theatre is Pembrokeshire’s only professional theatre venue and arts complex, funded principally by the Arts Council of Wales and Pembrokeshire County Council. The theatre was designed by local architect, Monty Minter, with one main auditorium of 297 seats at a cost of £500,000. The Torch Theatre now offers over 900 shows, films, art exhibitions and live broadcasts annually to audiences in excess of 70,000.

A not-for-profit, publicly-funded theatre and registered charity, The Torch Theatre is the only major theatre producing venue in West Wales and one of only three professional, venue-based theatre companies in Wales – alongside Sherman Cymru in Cardiff and Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold. With a minimum of at least two new productions each year, the Torch Theatre Company tour at least one production every two years.

Following a £5.4 million refurbishment and extension project, it now consists of a 300 seat Main House, a 102 seat Studio Theatre, a bespoke art gallery, bar facilities and an attractive café – Café Torch. The venue has been transformed to create an accessible, comfortable and attractive place to enjoy entertainment and the arts, complete with state of the art digital cinema technology with 3D capabilities.

2017 marked the Torch Theatre’s 40th birthday. Forty years as a producing company, with over 200 shows under their belt. The Torch Theatre celebrated this milestone by staging the iconic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest with a cast of fourteen actors, one of the biggest casts ever seen in a Torch Theatre show. The production proved to be one of the Torch Theatre Company’s best-ever shows; receiving outstanding critical acclaim and 5 star reviews.

In March 2018, the Torch Theatre took their production Grav to an off Broadway theatre in New York to do three performances. Next year the Torch Theatre will be taking Grav on a short tour of Wales and London.

Peter Doran, Artistic Director of the Torch Theatre is the most performed director in the history of the theatre. He has written 9 of the 43 productions himself including this year’s pantomime Pinocchio.

Pinocchio will be the Torch Theatre Company’s 175th production and their 38th Christmas Show.
