One of our lovely Artspod team, (all of whom are creative and lovely), has taken to sketching the UK’s beautiful theatres, while they remain closed during this long and painful pandemic.
Jo has dug out her sketch book and armed with a black pen has challenged herself to illustrate as many theatres as she has time to do.
So far she has completed
Her Majesty’s Theatre, London (home to Phantom of The Opera), Victoria Palace Theatre (home to Hamilton), Palace Theatre (home to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Theatre Royal Nottingham, Richmond Theatre (London) and Buxton Opera House.
Jo said, “I love the architecture of theatres and sometimes they are just overlooked. In our excitement to watch a show we forget to stand back and really appreciate the stunning design and presence a theatre gives to a street or town, old and new. My sketches are quite quick and hopefully capture the essence of a building with a lively and animated style.”
Available as prints or postcards, Jo has offered to donate 10% of future sales to the theatre charity Acting For Others.
The original illustrations are available to buy on request.
