    ABOUT
LMTO is the world’s only professional orchestra dedicated to performing works of musical theatre. Born
from a desire to perform musical scores with a full, symphonic orchestra, we celebrate this remarkable
genre of music with world-class musicians and singers. We are passionate about introducing audiences to
the joys of a full orchestra performing a musical, and are committed to supporting young musicians as
    they enter the professional world.
    FOUNDING STORY
LMTO was founded in 2015 by young graduate Freddie Tapner, who used social media to create a
network of professional London musicians who were, like him, passionate about musical theatre. A few
weeks later the London Musical Theatre Orchestra was born, and over 100 instrumentalists and singers
began meeting each month to play and sing through the score of a musical in private.
In 2016, responding to the passion of the players in the orchestra, LMTO launched its first public season:
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s State Fair at Cadogan Hall and Alan Menken’s A Christmas Carol at the
Lyceum Theatre, starring Robert Lindsay. We have since performed at some of London’s most iconic
venues, including the London Palladium and the Royal Albert Hall, working with internationally renowned
    musicians and singers.
